Feodies ShippFeodies Shipp III is the Acting Director of the University of Michigan Detroit Center. He started his career in Higher Education with the U-M Career Center in 1995. From 1996 to 2010, he worked his way up the ranks in the University’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions – from Admissions Counselor to Assistant Director. In 2010, Feodies accepted the position of Associate Director of the Detroit Center. Through this position, he was able to combine two of his greatest passions, the University of Michigan and the city of Detroit.

Feodies Shipp III is the Interim Director of the University of Michigan Detroit Center. He started his career in Higher Education with the U-M Career Center in 1995. From 1996 to 2010, he worked his way up the ranks in the University’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions – from Admissions Counselor to Assistant Director. In 2010, Feodies accepted the position of Associate Director of the Detroit Center.

Through this position, he was able to combine two of his greatest passions, the University of Michigan and the city of Detroit.

Born and raised in Detroit, Feodies is excited by the city’s rebirth and believes the University can be a significant contributor to that experience. Shipp earned his BA in History from the University of Michigan and a MA in Educational Leadership from Eastern Michigan University.

Meeting & Events Coordinator

Alexis EllisAlexis oversees the day-to-day operations of the front desk at the Detroit Center. As the front line of the Detroit Center, Alexis is responsible for event, program and project management, logistics, room scheduling, customer relations, reception and guest services.

More about Alexis Ellis

Alexis Ellis is a native Detroiter and a graduate of Murray-Wright High School. She earned a B.A. in Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University and has over a decade of professional experience in the commercial, government and non-profit sectors. She is a recent graduate of the University of Michigan Center for the Education of Women – Advanced Leadership Program. Along with staff of the Detroit Center, Alexis received the U-M Distinguished Diversity Leader Award in 2013 and was nominated for the President’s Staff Innovation Award.

Alexis prides herself on being committed to the rebirth of Detroit. She has sat on volunteer boards, such as the Michigan Opera Theatre Volunteer Association and the Junior Board of Boys Hope Girls Hope of Detroit. These experiences have helped bring about awareness and change to the Arts and Detroit’s youth. Her vast knowledge of what’s going on in the ‘epicenter’ of Detroit is a beneficial asset to the U-M Detroit Center.

Gerrard Rayford

Facilities Coordinator

Gerrard RayfordGerrard Rayford is primarily responsible for the management, coordination and maintenance of the Detroit Center’s spaces and equipment. He is also responsible for the development, coordination, and installation of exhibits for the Monts Hall Gallery.

Gerrard Rayford is primarily responsible for the management, coordination and maintenance of the Detroit Center’s spaces and equipment. He is also responsible for the development, coordination, and installation of exhibits for the Monts Hall Gallery.

In addition to his role at the University of Michigan, Gerrard is majoring in History at Wayne State University, with interests in creative writing, music production, and sports.
