The University of Michigan Detroit Center concludes its 2012-2013 Sankofa Film Series with Colored Frames. The film will be shown on Friday, April 19 beginning at 6 p.m. Following the film, Marvin Chatman, a professional artist and Professor of Humanities at Wayne County Community College District, will provide a brief talk and respond to audience questions.

Sweet Honey in the Rock: Raise Your Voice

The University of Michigan Detroit Center continues its 2012-2013 Sankofa Film Series with Sweet Honey in the Rock: Raise Your Voice. The film will be shown on Friday, March 15 beginning at 6 pm. After the showing, Chorale Director and musician Lamar Willis will give a brief talk on the African American sacred music tradition and answer questions about the documentary.

In partnership the U-M Dearborn’s African and African American Studies Program, the U-M Detroit Center launches the Sankofa Film Series. This year’s series is entitled, "Contemporary Artists Embrace the Elders: Harry Belafonte, Beah Richards, Elizabeth Catlett, Francisco Mora, and Pio Leyva".
