Healthy Environments Partnership

Healthy Environments Partnership logo

Healthy Environments Partnership (HEP) was founded in 2000. We are a community-based participatory research (CBPR) parthership with a focus on understanding and promoting heart health in Detroit neighborhoods.

Our partnership includes Brightmoor Community Center, Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation, Friends of Parkside, and Rebuilding Communities Incorporated; the Detroit Department of Health and Wellness Promotion; Henry Ford Health System; a community-member-at-large; and the University of Michigan School of Public Health.

Through our research we have examined the relationship between heart health in Detroit and: 1) Stressful social and economic conditions in Detroit neighborhoods; 2) the built environments (e.g. neighborhood walkability); 3) food environments (e.g. location of grocery stores, access to healthy foods); and 4) air quality.
